1. What an articulated crawler is
A Jekko JF pairs a loader-crane style knuckle boom, with a main boom, an articulating outer boom, and hydraulic telescopic extensions, with a self-propelled crawler chassis and outriggers. The upper structure slews to place the load. The result is a crane that sets up like a mini crane but bends its boom in the middle, so the hook can reach positions a straight line from the turret cannot.
2. Why the knuckle matters
A telescopic boom is a straight line from the pivot to the tip. If there is a parapet, a soffit, a pipe rack, or a tree between the crane and the load, the straight line has to clear it by going over, which costs radius and capacity. The knuckle lets the outer boom drop past the obstruction: up over the parapet and down to the roof deck, in under the canopy to the storefront, around the column to the pit. The hook ends up close to the load with the crane parked where the ground is.
- Setting glass on a facade from behind a sidewalk canopy
- Lifting HVAC onto a roof over a parapet from a tight alley
- Placing machinery in a pit or behind a mezzanine edge
- Working inside a structure with the boom folded under the roof steel
3. Hook, winch, or jib
The JF works in hook, winch, and jib configurations. On the hook, the load hangs from the boom tip and the boom does the vertical movement, which supports precise placement. With the winch, a rope runs to the tip so the load can be raised and lowered below a fixed boom position, useful for pits, shafts, and work below the boom. A hydraulic jib adds a further articulated section for additional reach and height. Each configuration has its own load chart. Request the matching manufacturer chart from CLE; the public Lift Plan Calculator does not model JF articulation.Lift Plan Calculator
4. Setup and footprint
The JF is a heavier machine than the SPX line, and its outrigger spread and reactions require a separate site review. Confirm the weight, full setup footprint, and maximum pad reaction for the exact machine and configuration. Ground bearing is the first check on every JF job. The Outrigger Reaction Simulator can assist preliminary review for supported machines; use the manufacturer documentation and the site engineer for the actual lift.Outrigger Reaction Simulator

5. When to choose a JF over a telescopic mini crane
- The load is behind or under an obstruction the straight boom cannot clear at a workable radius
- The load needs an articulated machine, and its chart, transport dimensions, and setup footprint all fit the job.
- The work is a facade, a roof edge, or a canopy where the boom has to fold past the building line
- You need winch depth into a pit or shaft plus articulated reach to get over the edge
For a straight lift through a door and up, the SPX line is lighter, narrower, and simpler. For anything that has to go around a corner in the air, the JF is the tool. All three are for sale through CLE; see the articulated crawler cranes page.
