1. What a carry deck is
A carry deck is a compact, self-propelled industrial crane: a rubber-tired carrier with a rotating telescopic boom over the front and a flat steel deck behind the operator. It was designed for plants, mills, and mechanical rooms, where the load has to travel across a floor and then be set with a crane. One operator picks, drives, and sets. Broderson has built them since the 1970s and CLE stocks three: the IC-35, IC-40, and IC-80.
2. Two ratings, not one
Crane capacity
What the boom can lift at a given radius, from the load chart. The headline figure applies only at the shortest radius, over the front, on outriggers. It falls quickly with radius and changes with slew direction and setup mode.
Deck capacity
What can sit on the flat deck while the machine travels: rigging, shims, small components, parts coming off a teardown. It is a separate rating on the spec sheet and has nothing to do with the boom. Treat the deck as a rated load surface, not a shelf, and never carry a load on the deck and on the hook without checking both limits.
3. On rubber, on outriggers, and pick-and-carry
Broderson distinguishes stationary on-rubber operation, outrigger operation, and pick-and-carry in its documentation. Each configuration has its own conditions and ratings; do not treat them as interchangeable. Use the chart for the exact model and setup, including outrigger position, tire conditions, slew sector, and travel restrictions. Travel with a suspended load only where the manufacturer explicitly rates and permits it.
4. Indoors and on the floor
Carry decks are designed for plant work, but each doorway, aisle, and turn must be checked against the exact transport dimensions. Confirm the fuel option and site air-quality requirements before indoor operation. The floor is the check that matters: tires and pads concentrate the machine and load, so suspended slabs, trench covers, and pits need a documented review before the crane rolls over them.

6. Renting one
- Confirm door height and aisle width against the transport dimensions
- Tell us the floor: slab on grade, suspended, rated load if known
- List the picks: weight, radius, height, and whether the load travels
- Flag indoor air rules so CLE can confirm whether an appropriate configuration is available
- Daily, weekly, and monthly rates; delivery quoted from Pottstown
