Renting a boom lift often involves arranging transport as well. The Hyrax 27.41 offers a tracked alternative that can be moved on a suitable equipment trailer and drive itself from the unloading point to the work. Match the lift, trailer, tow vehicle and route before deciding to collect it yourself. Transport suitability is a rating check, not a pickup-size assumption.
01It needs a hitch, not a freight truck
A conventional articulating boom lift may require a dedicated equipment carrier and a scheduled delivery window. Miss that window and the crew can be waiting. Comparing transport requirements alongside working reach helps you plan the complete job.
The Hyrax 27.41 can be transported on a suitable rated trailer. Check the actual machine and trailer weights, payload, axle and tire ratings, tongue weight, hitch rating, tow rating and combined vehicle rating. An enclosed trailer adds door clearance and loading-angle checks. Arrange collection with CLE only after the complete combination is confirmed; otherwise have it delivered.
02Light weight is the point
Every pound has to cross the site
Weight affects the whole route: parking lot, lawn, pavers, slab, elevated deck and finished floor. Tracks spread contact differently from tires, but neither a lower machine weight nor a tracked chassis proves that turf or a structural slab is suitable. Check bearing conditions, point loads and the protection required for the actual route.
Fits where the delivery truck never will
Compact transport dimensions can make courtyards, campus paths and narrow alleys worth considering. Measure the gate, door and loading path against the machine's stowed dimensions. Confirm transport and permit requirements for the actual vehicle and trailer combination.
03It drives itself, so you are not dragging it anywhere
Towable does not mean helpless. Off the trailer, the Hyrax is fully self-propelled on its own tracks, and the 27.41 keeps driving even at full height. It climbs ramps, crosses slopes, and repositions between picks without a tow vehicle, a forklift, or a crew pushing. Many "towable" boom lifts on the market are trailer-mounted units that have to be unhitched, leveled on outriggers, then re-hitched and dragged to the next spot. The Hyrax simply drives there.
- Self-propelled tracked chassis; follow the model-specific slope and travel restrictions
- Automatic leveling within the manufacturer limits; assess the actual supporting surface and setup
- No outrigger spread to deploy; allow the required operating space for tracks, counterweight, boom, platform and the complete movement envelope
- Radio remote lets one operator load, unload, and position from the ground
04The math on a typical week
Consider a glazing crew with work in Reading followed by another job in Lancaster. Dedicated deliveries and pickups each need a scheduled truck. If a rated tow vehicle and trailer combination is available, the Hyrax may travel with the crew. Confirm each site's access, storage and loading arrangements before choosing that approach.
05Two sizes, same idea
The 27.41 and 50.52 provide different working envelopes and transport requirements. Compare their manufacturer specifications and the actual load on the trailer. Both use tracked chassis and self-leveling systems, but the larger machine does not automatically share the smaller model's access or transport suitability.
06When a Hyrax is the right call
- Sloped or soft ground where the approved operating limits and bearing conditions favor a tracked machine
- Finished surfaces, turf and pavers where machine weight and contact loads need evaluation
- Sites a delivery truck cannot reach: courtyards, backyards, campus interiors
- Multi-site weeks where you want the lift to travel with the crew
- Any job where a fast, outrigger-free setup saves more time than the extra height would buy
Compact Lifting Equipment is an Authorized Hyrax Dealer and rents the 27.41 and 50.52 from Pottstown, with the 50.43 and 50.45 available for purchase. Confirm a suitable transport combination with CLE or arrange delivery.
