1. Three kinds of lift
Wheeled boom lift
An articulating or telescopic boom on tires is common in rental fleets. It can travel efficiently on suitable surfaces, but weight, dimensions, terrain limits, and transport requirements vary widely. Select the actual model before comparing it with a tracked alternative.
Spider lift
A tracked lift that sets four outriggers before it elevates. Light and narrow, and excellent through a door, but the outrigger footprint takes floor space and setup time, and the machine cannot move once it is up.
Tracked self-leveling lift (Hyrax)
A tracked chassis with automatic leveling can work without separate outriggers within the manufacturer operating envelope. Any elevated travel must follow the machine instructions for speed, slope, height, and surface conditions. Check the exact unit rather than applying a generic slope rating.
2. Side by side

| Outriggers | None | Four, must be set | None |
| Works on a slope | Within manufacturer slope limits | Levels via outriggers | Needs level ground |

| Ground pressure | Verify actual ground loading | Point loads at four pads | Verify actual ground loading |
| Transport | Rated transport combination | Rated transport combination | Rated transport combination |
| Best on | Slopes, lawns, mixed terrain, moving jobs | Indoors, tight footprint, fixed position | Paved yards, flat sites |
3. Ground, lawns, and finished surfaces
Tracks distribute the load differently from tires or outrigger pads, but contact area alone does not prove acceptable bearing pressure. Check the actual machine, surface, and route. Soft ground, wet lawns, and finished surfaces may need designed protection; mats do not establish that the underlying ground can support the machine.
4. Moving it
Compare the complete machine and trailer weight with the towing vehicle, hitch, axle, braking, payload, and tie-down limits. A pickup or van is not automatically suitable. Confirm the transport arrangement for the particular Hyrax configuration with CLE before collecting it. The towable Hyrax post covers the planning questions.towable Hyrax post
5. When a tracked lift is the right call
- The site is uneven and its assessed conditions fall within the selected machine operating limits
- The work moves along a building and the operator should not have to come down to reposition
- Outrigger footprint is not available, or setup time on every move is too slow
- The site is a lawn or a finished surface that a wheeled lift would rut
- You want to tow it yourself
6. The Hyrax lineup at CLE
The 27.41 is the compact unit, and the 50.52 provides another tracked configuration for larger access tasks. Confirm platform capacity, working height, outreach, and weight from the exact machine documentation. The 50.43 and 50.45 are available for purchase. CLE is an Authorized Hyrax Dealer; see all four on the tracked aerial lifts page.27.4150.52tracked aerial lifts
